DATE:  24th October 2023

No previous notice issued.

Mariners are advised that a search of the area East of Rabbit Island and Wilsons Promontory by the Gippsland Ports vessel Shearwater has found no trace of the burnt hull of the yacht Tucana which caught fire yesterday 23rd October 2023. The crew of the vessel abandoned ship and have been rescued and transferred ashore.

The last known position of the vessel was;

Lat.    38° 54.235’ S

Lon. 146° 34.010’ E                 Datum WGS84

The vessel is presumed but not confirmed to have sunk due to the weather at the time and the low remaining freeboard caused by the fire. See attached photo.
