DETAILS: Mariners are advised that the Entrance Channel Tide Gauge Platform located on the Eastern Training Wall will be upgraded with a new structure to be built side by side with the existing platform. Works shall commence from today Wednesday 6th July 2022. Works may be intermittent over the next few months and may involve vessel operations near the site.
The new platform will be fitted with latest technology instruments including a GNSS GPS Receiver, Radar Tide Gauge, Wave Height Sensor and Horizontal Acoustic Doppler Current profiler.
Both the current and new platforms will operate simultaneously for a period of 2 to 3 months to confirm system integrity. On completion of the instrument testing the old platform will be removed.
The data obtained from this equipment is broadcast via the Gippsland ports website and is available to vessel operators to assist with the safe passage across the bar and through the Entrance.
