Our Board
Gippsland Ports was established in 1996 to provide a regional service to the local community, visitors and other user groups for the Gippsland Ports including Anderson Inlet, Corner Inlet & Port Albert, Gipplsand Lakes, Snowny River, Mallacoota & Shallow Inlet & Lake Tyres Waterways. In managing the ports and waterways, Gippsland Ports works closely with other government authorities and organisations such as the Shires of East Gippsland, Wellington, South Gippsland and Bass Coast, Department of Sustainability, Department of Primary Industry, Environment Protection Authority, Parks Victoria, Tourism Victoria, Marine Safety Victoria, Victorian Water Police, Ocean Rescue, Coast Guards and the Gippsland Coastal Board.
Bernard Smith - Chairman |
Bernie lives in Metung, and has a background in the ports, aviation and energy industries. His most recent role was as Chief Executive Officer of Tasmanian Ports Corporation, previous to this he was Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Airservices Australia. He has served on a number of Boards and is also currently Director of East Gippsland Water.

Joan Liley |
Joan lives near Waratah Bay and is part of a family which has its roots in the maritime industry. She is an Economics Graduate, a graduate member of AICD, Deputy Chair of West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority and a Deputy Chair of South Gippsland Water. She is particularly interested in the sustainable development of the Gippsland Coast.

Gail Morley |
Gail is Managing Director of a consultancy business and has expertise in organisational development, vocational education and business management. As a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Gail brings corporate governance skills to the Board. Gail lives in Paynesville and also serves on the Board of the East Gippsland Water Authority.

Robyn Stewart |
Robyn Stewart, FAPI, FAICD, is a property consultant with over 25 years experience in property & infrastructure asset management, valuation, property development and project management. She is a qualified valuer, land economist, real estate agent & a Fellow member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She is Principal of a consulting business, Robyn Stewart & Associates, which specialises in commercial property and business advice.
She serves on a number of Boards and is currently Deputy Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Southern Cross Station Authority, a Member of the Building Practitioners Board, a Non-Executive Director of Archicentre Limited, a Non-Executive Director of Queen Victoria Market Pty Ltd and a Non-Executive Director of Melbourne Wholesale Fish Market Pty Ltd. She was previously Global Head of Property for ANZ Banking Group and prior to that held Executive Director roles at Colliers Jardine, Jones Lang Wootton and Heine Management Ltd.

Peter Jones |
Peter has lived in Gippsland since 1968. He co-founded and managed Gippsland’s Findlay and Weymouth Pharmacy Group. He has served as Councillor of the City of Sale, Deputy Chairman of South East Coast Tourism and Regional Commissioner of LaTrobe. He is also currently Chairman of two private Melbourne-based companies and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has many years experience on publicly listed boards.

Peter Hinksman |
Peter has an extensive career in the maritime industry. He trained as a deck officer in the Australian Merchant Navy and worked on a wide variety of ships before taking up a position with the Port of Melbourne in the mid 1990’s. He works part time with the Port Phillip Sea Pilots and continues to maintain his long standing involvement in South Gippsland through farming interests.

Tim Griffiths |
Tim is currently General Manager of The Bionic Ear Institute, a world leading medical bionics research institute, having joined in 2004. Tim's background includes senior business management and financial management roles in the NFP and private sectors. Tim is also a board member of Vision Australia and serves on sub-committees such as Finance, Audit and Risk, Property and Investments and is also a board member of Bionic Technologies Australia and Bionic Assets Pty Ltd. Tim has a very keen interest in the maritime industry and fulfills his interest through his current role as a part-time officer in The Australian Navy and holds the position of Maritime Industry Liaison Officer for Victoria.
