Construction works to place 7,000 tonne of armour rock on the outer side of the western headwall at the Gippsland Lakes Ocean Entrance are scheduled to commence on Wednesday 27th July 2022. Works are expected to take approximately three months to complete.
Throughout the project rock will be transported via barge from Bullock Island to a foreshore location approximately 100m east of the Barrier Landing Jetty. Materials will be further transported from this location to the Gippsland Lakes Ocean Entrance using land-based construction equipment. This route will utilise an existing vehicle access track over the sand dune to the 90 Mile Beach. This access track will be closed for the duration of construction activities.
Pedestrian access between Barrier Landing Jetty and the 90 Mile Beach will remain available via alternative existing walking tracks. Members of the public should maintain awareness of construction equipment operating between the Barrier Landing and the Gippsland Lakes Ocean entrance. Please exercise caution and follow the directions of on-site personnel and signage.
Principal contractor for the works is Paul Volk Contracting Pty Ltd.
